An Athlete and Advocate for Inclusion in Tanzania

Mosses Sebastian Mabula is a successful player, as well as a leader in sports for people with disabilities in Tanzania. He began to play amputee football at The Salvation Army primary school in 2000 and, since age fourteen, also participated in wheelchair tennis and para table tennis nationally and internationally.

In 2018, while still in college, Mosses was elected Secretary General and Founder of Tanzania Amputee Football Federation. His creativity and experience helped him lead the team to the 2022 World Cup in Turkey. Mosses then supported the team’s success through the organization of domestic amputee football competitions and the recruitment of skilled players from Turkey. These efforts, combined with government financial support, made the sport more popular. He helped coordinate and host several notable competitions in Tanzania, including the CANAF 2021 and CECAAF 2019, which further enhanced the visibility of parasports in the country. One of Mosses’ current efforts is the development of programs that support the growth of amputee football by lobbying the government to invest in the league. He is also focused on creating specific stadiums for amputee football, with the long-term goal of hosting tournaments for para-athletes to showcase their talent and qualify for future Paralympic games.

Mosses will be mentored by Larry Labiak, Disability Policy Officer at the Chicago Park District.
