Saudi Arabian educator promotes inclusivity through adaptive sport play
In her work as a coach, educator, and entrepreneur, Dr. Mayan Omair is committed to providing people of all abilities with greater access to restorative movement. With degrees in Special Education, Early Intervention, and Sport Science for Special Needs, Dr. Mayan’s academic pursuits demonstrate her passion and expertise in adaptive exercise. While still involved in academia, frequently lecturing at Dar Alhekmah University, she has put her learning to practice in her research, designing adaptive sports programs for youth with special needs, and as a coach, working with athletes through Special Olympics KSA.
Dr. Mayan also owns and manages a private sports company, Team Up for Sports. Its work provides young Saudi Arabians with opportunities for technical improvement in sport, as well as practical life skills for holistic well-being. Moreover, Team Up For Sports’ adaptive approach is inspiring other sports-related organizations in Saudi Arabia to adopt more inclusive pedagogies.
Her dedication to growing Team Up for Sports is evident in Dr. Mayan’s unceasing acquisition of new business and leadership skills. At the GSMP, Dr. Mayan hopes to develop scalable business growth strategies, as well as refined strategies for talent search, retention and performance tracking, and coaching development.
Dr. Mayan will be mentored by Dr. AJ Keaton, Assistant Professor of Sport Management and Meg Hancock, Associate Professor of Sport Administration at the University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky.
