By Tara Chozet, ESPN October 10, 2014

The Global Sports Mentoring Program wrapped up its third year Tuesday when the emerging leaders made their final action plan presentations in Washington, D.C.

The program is a collaboration between espnW and the U.S. Department of State that pairs emerging female leaders from around with world with top female executives from the sports and business industries for a four-week mentorship focused on developing strategic action plans to create sports opportunities for girls and women in their home countries.

This year, the program welcomed 17 emerging leaders from across the globe.

ESPN hosted two emerging leaders of its own – Sadia Mehwish from Pakistan, who worked with senior coordinating producer Jill Frederickson on introducing cricket as a recognized sport for girls in her community; and Racha Kalot from Lebanon, who teamed with Vice President, International Finance Mary Ellen Ladieu on a program that will use basketball and other sports to empower girls to realize their full potential.
