Beyond the Court: Inspiring a New Era for Women and Youth in Zimbabwean Basketball
Yemu Chamboko is the Secretary General of the Basketball Union of Zimbabwe, a position she has held since 2017 and was re-elected to in 2021.
Her extensive involvement in basketball began with her role as interim Secretary General for the Harare Province Basketball Association, where she served from 2011 to 2013. During that time, she was also elected as the Women and Youth Commission President for the National Federation.
In her current position, Yemu oversees the promotion, supervision, and direction of basketball in Zimbabwe. Notably, she has successfully led the Her World Her Rules project, funded by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), where over 280 girls across three provinces participated in basketball clinics and festivals over the past three years. Additionally, Yemu serves on the Zimbabwe Olympic Committee board as the chairperson of the Media, Communications, and PR Commission.
Yemu is also planning to launch her own consultancy specializing in Athletes Lifestyle Mentorship and Sports Career Transitions. To support this venture, she seeks a deeper understanding of the global sports business, opportunities for women, and mentorship program development.
Her mission is to create environments that inspire and empower women and girls to thrive in sports through innovative and dedicated programs, fostering meaningful change both within and beyond the world of sport.
Yemu will be mentored by Marycate Walsh, Vice President, External Affairs, and her team at Monumental Sports and Entertainment in Washington, D.C.
