Argentinian Anthropologist Generates Equity through Research and Movement
Dr. Nemesia Hijós is a social anthropologist, first-generation university graduate, and native of San Antonio de Areco, Buenos Aires, Argentina. She has a bachelor’s degree in social anthropology from the University of Buenos Aires (UBA), a master’s degree in anthropology from the University of San Martín, and a Ph.D. in social sciences from the UBA, where she serves as an Assistant Professor. Nemesia also works as an adjunct professor in Uruguay, Brazil, and Spain, as a speaker at sport science conferences in the United States and France, and as a postdoctoral fellow with the National Scientific and Technical Research Council (CONICET) of Argentina. She has been involved in different research projects and international networks related to social studies of sport pertaining to gender, management, culture, and consumption at the Gino Germani Research Institute (UBA), at the Center for Social and Health Studies of the National University of Mar del Plata, at the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO), the Social Observatory of Sport, and the Permanent Seminar of Social Studies of Sport. Nemesia has published four books and several research articles on these topics and other articles of scientific dissemination in national and international media.
During the GSMP, Nemesia is eager to build lasting connections and partnerships with other individuals working to bring about equity through sport. From her mentors and peers, Namesia hopes to discover practical tools for the promotion of peaceful sport expression.
Dr. Nemesia will be mentored by Dr. Laura Burton, Department Head, Educational Leadership & Professor, Sport Management, Danielle DeRosa, Visiting Clinical Instructor, and their team at the University of Connecticut in Hartford, Connecticut.
